Moonlit walk to benefit city's scholars
The Bellingham Herald
A first "moonlight walk and jog" along Bellingham's waterfront will raise money for student scholars from Bellingham's four high schools.
Sponsored by the Bellingham Dollars for Scholars Foundation, the Dash for Dollars on June 4 will support scholarships for ongoing education and training for graduates from Bellingham, Sehome, Squalicum and Options high schools.
Last year, 19 graduates received scholarships to help them continue their educations.
Clad in glow-in-the-dark necklaces and event T-shirts, participants will raise money by securing pledges for their walk or jog. Beginning at 9 p.m. at the Bellwether Ballroom on Tom Glenn Common, the route will go around Marina Restaurant, Anthony's Restaurant, Port of Bellingham offices and back along Bellwether Way, a one-mile walk or jog.
The event is not competitive, and is open to everyone.
An awards celebration will follow, at Bellwether Conference Center, with pizza and pop, and a dance until 11:30 p.m. Music will be by local jazz band Scrub Hubner and a student band.
The Bellingham chapter of Dollars for Scholars is a local nonprofit organization affiliated with the national organization of Dollars for Scholars. Sponsors for the June 4 event include the Port of Bellingham, Bellwether Conference Center, Little Caesars Pizza and Pepsi Bottling Co.
