WHEN & HOW do I get my scholarship money?

In order for your scholarship funds to be sent to your college's financial aid office, you must complete the steps and requirements outlined in the Scholarship Response Form. This form was mailed to you at the time your scholarship was awarded.

WHEN:  All scholarship checks will be mailed to your college upon demonstration of completion of your first term of school. 

HOW:  Checks will be made payable to the college with your name listed on the memo line.   Included with this check will be a letter to the financial aid office of your college emphasizing our intention that the award be used to help reduce your financial need and not replace other grant assistance. 

• If your college is a matching institution with Dollars for Scholars they have already agreed to this arrangement.   We will notify them this summer about your scholarship.  Further, we suggest, that you notify the financial aid or scholarship office that you have  received a scholarship through a Dollars for Scholars program!
• Colleges will apply the scholarship money in equal distributions over the remaining terms of that particular academic year.  For example, if your college is on the quarter system, a $500 scholarship will be divided amongst your remaining TWO quarters (winter & spring) -- $250 applied to winter quarter and $250 applied to spring quarter. Each college handles this differently, so please check with your particular college’s financial aid office.
• In order to receive the funds, you must complete the steps on the Scholarship Response Form. In January (the specific deadline is listed in the Scholarship Response Form for your scholarship year) after your first term of college you must provide to Bellingham Dollars for Scholars:
  
  
  • A transcript documenting your first term grades
  • Proof of official registration for 2nd term classes – this is usually available online through
    your college.
  • Provide printed copies of these two documents by the January deadline by mail, fax or email to:
