Bellingham Dollars for Scholars is proud to show that we are growing year by year.

Bellingham Dollars for Scholars is a program of Whatcom Community Foundation.

The chart below shows how BDFS has awarded more scholarships, more dollars, and has grown the endowment fund considerably over the last 6 years. Another measure of our success is that more students are applying for scholarships each year. In 2007 we received 68 scholarship applications, and in 2009 130 applications were submitted by the deadline.

These accomplishments would not have been possible without the generous contributions of our donors and the work of our dedicated volunteer Fund Advisory Committee members.

In honor of Bellingham High School's Class of 1989's 20 year reunion event,
alumni are contributing toward a
Bellingham Dollars for Scholars scholarship fund.

The goal for this year is to offer a $500 one-time scholarship to be awarded to a 2009 graduating senior from Bellingham High School. Funds collected above and beyond the $500 goal, or collected after the May 10, 2009 deadline will be directed to future BHS Class of 89 scholarships, or to the general fund for Bellingham Dollars for Scholars.

How to Give to the BHS Class of 89 Scholarship

Alumni of the class of 1989 are encouraged to donate directly to Bellingham Dollars for Scholars by downloading and completing a Class of 89 Pledge Form (.pdf). Please enclose the pledge form with your check, made out to BDFS, and mail to:

Board members for Bellingham Dollars for Scholars will be entering the Human Race again this year to raise the organization's annual operating expenses. Bellingham Dollars for Scholars is a local non-profit that awards college scholarships to students graduating from Bellingham School District high schools. 

"The Human Race gives us the opportunity to raise money for our modest annual operating costs." said Debbie Granger, president of Bellingham Dollars for Scholars. "We are proud to have shown considerable growth in our scholarship awards over the last five years ," said Granger. "We are finalizing our awards for this year's applicants right now. We expect to award about 60 scholarships totaling roughly $54,000." Members of BDFS's all volunteer board will be asking friends, family, and colleagues to pledge donations as part of their participation in the race, which happens on Saturday, June 14th. Funds raised for college scholarships are never used for the non-profit's operating expenses.

The Human Race combines the options of a 5K walk or 5K/10K run sponsored by the Whatcom Volunteer Center and local businesses to raise funds for local nonprofits. Individuals and groups collect donations for their favorite cause.
